Appling Healthcare’s Senior Care Unit in Baxley is an inpatient geriatric care facility offering mental health services for older adults. Your loved one will find compassionate and professional care in a safe, supportive environment.
The Senior Care Unit is a secure facility with 30 beds and an outdoor area. It is a short-term care unit, with an average length of stay of 14 days.
Treatment
Our experienced healthcare professionals deliver comprehensive diagnosis and treatment to adults who are experiencing emotional, cognitive or behavioral symptoms.
Conditions treated include bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, depression and anxiety, as well as dementia complicated by behavioral conditions.
Based on each patient’s specific needs, our treatment program may include individual, group or family therapy; medication management; recreational therapy; and management of co-existing medical conditions.
Our Care Team
Our multidisciplinary team of professionals understands the unique needs of seniors in the treatment setting. Patients will receive an individualized plan focusing on their specific psychiatric and medical needs.
Providers include psychiatrists, medical doctors and specialists, social workers, nurses, rehabilitation specialists, dietitians and pharmacists. A Registered Nurse is on duty 24 hours a day. Additional staff at the Senior Care Unit includes an activities director, LPNs, mental health techs, and a discharge planner.
Activities
The Senior Care Unit offers a wide variety of activities designed to enhance the patient experience and improve functioning levels and abilities. Activities include:
- Art Therapy – Painting, coloring books
- Meditation/Relaxation Sessions
- Outdoors – Fresh air and activities on the patio
- Music
- Movies & Popcorn
- Games (BINGO is a favorite)
Referrals
For referrals, we require the following:
- Demographics
- Medical H&P
- Most Recent Labs
- Immunization Record
- Nurses Notes Documenting Behavior(s)
- Medication List
- Advanced Directive or DNR Order
A 1013 or Voluntary Consent must be completed and faxed before the patient can be admitted. The original 1013 or Voluntary Consent must be sent with the patient. In addition, the patient must be medically cleared by our Emergency Department before acceptance to the Senior Care Unit.
Billing
Our services are covered by Medicare, Medicaid and most private insurers. We will bill insurance for services and obtain authorization in advance to avoid unanticipated costs.
